Sauna health benefits: Why is the sauna good for you?
Sweaty. Spiritual. Soul-soothing. Sauna isn’t a trend—it’s centuries of Nordic wisdom, now enjoying a global revival. So what’s behind its lasting appeal?
Read moreWhat's your reason? For Lisa and Manfred, the answer is simple.
Every morning, when time allows, Lisa Loderbauer and Manfred Higlsperger head into the mountains with the first light. Trail running. Elevation. Long distances.
The load is high. But that's exactly where their energy comes from.
And after?
After, the other part of the day begins.
"Running on trails makes me feel truly alive. It's where I feel myself the most," Lisa says.
Manfred sees it the same way. "What I love most is being outdoors and enjoying it together."
They are out in the mountains almost every day. Competitions, elevation, extreme conditions. The body is constantly challenged.
"We have never come back from the trails in a worse mood."
After training, something begins that is just as non-negotiable for them as training itself.
"Using the sauna after intense sessions is part of our routine," Lisa and Manfred say.
Manfred keeps it simple. "I like the quiet, the heat and the feeling of slowing down."
For Lisa, it goes deeper. "I love when the warmth turns into heat and I can completely switch off."
The body relaxes faster. Recovery feels deeper. The mind becomes calm. They sleep better.
After the sauna, they step outside. Straight to the Traunsee.
"Your whole body tingles afterwards," Lisa explains.
For Manfred, it was a challenge at the beginning. Today, it is part of the day.
The shift between heat and cold reconnects body and mind. Lisa describes it simply. "I always look forward to how it feels afterwards."
"When your legs stop working, your mind gets you to the finish line," Manfred says.
That strength is not built during training alone. In the sauna, after hard days, thoughts begin to slow.
"In the sauna, you don't really think anymore. You just let your thoughts drift," Lisa says.
That state is what helps them reset and regain clarity.

Since the beginning of the year, Lisa and Manfred have had their own Harvia Kammi Cube Large outdoor sauna. Since then, their daily life has changed.
"The sauna is definitely part of it. We use it much more than I expected," Lisa says.
Friends no longer meet in the living room. They meet in the sauna. Conversations happen where calm naturally follows.
"You relax in a very short time, both physically and mentally," Manfred says.
Their sleep has improved. The body settles faster.
"Manfred often gets attacked by sudden naps," Lisa says, laughing.
What initially feels like a functional tool becomes something more over time.
"We now share our moments of calm as well," Lisa says.
Just sitting. Talking. Or saying nothing at all.
The word kammi comes from Finnish. It means a shelter — a quiet place protected by nature. The Harvia Kammi Cube Large turns that into reality.
Built from 40 mm thick spruce logs. Room for up to six bathers on two levels. The wide back window opens the view to your garden.
Warmth when you need it. Strength that lasts.
Over 75 years of experience. Built in the EU. Delivered complete — assembled by two people.
When asked what has changed, Lisa and Manfred are clear.
The sauna is no longer an extra.
It has become part of their system.
"We let life run its course and run with it."
Every body, mind and spirit has a reason to sauna.
